The University of Michigan Addiction Research Center (UMAC) is recruiting MDs and PhDs for postdoctoral research training funded by National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). Appointments typically are for two years of training although a third year appointment is sometimes available.
The postdoctoral fellowship offers the opportunity to develop an integrated research program and enhance grant writing skills necessary for a successful academic career in alcohol and other drug research. Fellows are mentored in a broad range of areas involving ongoing projects by UMAC affiliated scientists. Opportunities exist in sleep and circadian rhythms, prevention science, cognitive, community, and developmental psychology, developmental psychopathology, epidemiology, health services research interventions including telemedicine and mobile health, behavioral pharmacology, molecular/behavior genetics, addiction medicine, emergency medicine, and neuroscience. The NIAAA T32 Postdoctoral Fellowship Training Program is designed to provide multidisciplinary training to: develop and test effective methods to effect change through improved approaches to treatment, as well as universal and indicated prevention, develop and test models to disseminate knowledge of effective interventions to diverse populations, and elucidate the process of changes in drinking behaviors. Training of diverse candidates for academic research careers, including underrepresented minorities, is a priority. Training of psychiatrists as well as psychologists is offered. Applications are now being accepted for 2021-2022 and reviews will continue until positions are filled. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree and/or MD degree at the time the fellowship begins and must be US citizens or permanent residents. Salaries are commensurate with prior postdoctoral experience and NRSA regulations.
