Emmett Chappelle Awards
Since its first meeting in 1988, SRBR has welcomed and benefited from researchers with a common interest in biological timing from widely varying backgrounds, disciplines and countries. The Emmett Chappelle Awards aim to stimulate underrepresented minorities (URM) attendance to the SRBR meeting. US Researchers who identify as coming from backgrounds underrepresented in the biomedical sciences as defined by NIH regardless of nationality, and Non-US Researchers who identify as an underrepresented or disadvantaged individual in the country in which they currently live are strongly encouraged to apply. All levels of training are eligible for the Emmett Chappelle Award (undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, medical students). Some fellowships will also be available for URM junior faculty. Applications will be reviewed by the SRBR Travel and Trainee Awards Committee. Fellowship competition results will be announced in late February early March 2024. Emmett Chappelle Awardees will also be eligible for the SRBR Trainee Travel Awards (Research Merit and Excellence Awards). Our goal is to provide Emmett Chappelle Awardees with professional development tools and networking opportunities to become future leaders and role models in the biological rhythms community. We will facilitate the integration of the Emmett Chappelle Awardees to the biological rhythms community through professional development workshops and a one-on-one mentoring program. The Emmett Chappelle Award will cover a portion of meeting and travel expenses. Emmett Chappelle Awardees will enjoy opportunities to develop a peer network and participate in the largest gathering of the chronobiology community. Emmett Chappelle Awardees will also be eligible for the SRBR Trainee Travel Awards (Research Merit and Excellence Awards). The application submission deadline was January 19, 2024.
