Description

The Department of Biology at Washington University in St. Louis seeks to hire a fulltime lecturer on the teaching track starting in August 2024 for the 2024-2025 academic year. This is a nine-month position. The person who fills this position will join a collegial group of teaching-track faculty who participate in teaching the department’s introductory courses, Principles of Biology 1 and 2.

This role requires duties equivalent to a full-time teaching load, which will include a combination of teaching, advising and department and university service.  The person who fills this position should expect to teach several introductory biology lab sections each semester (about 50% of their teaching assignment), and in addition, teach 1-2 upper-level courses/lab courses per academic year (50% of teaching assignment).  The specifics of the upper-level course(s) will depend on the experience of the person hired, and the needs of the biology department.

Initial appointments at the rank of lecturer are renewed on an annual basis, and reappointment is contingent upon a successful annual evaluation and review. Teaching track faculty will not be evaluated on or expected to engage in research or scholarship as part of their appointment.  The biology department has a great track record of keeping and promoting teaching-track faculty.

Qualifications

Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in a field of biology.  Teaching experience at the post-secondary level is required.
