What do you consider to be your most important contributions to chronobiology and sleep science? 

 

The transfer to clinical practice (chronotherapeutics). Introducing light (and dark) therapy in Europe. Psychophysiology of light, melatonin and sleep manipulations. Using them to treat affective and sleep disorders. Varia: human seasonality; long term actimetry in pathology; warm feet to fall asleep; dawn simulation; rediscovering daylight.

 

What are the most important lessons you have learned over your successful scientific career?

 

Choose well your collaborators! They are essential for survival and fun. Follow your scientific instinct. Be stubborn.

 Do you have any advice for trainees and early career scientists?

 

Choose well your mentors! For their excellence and their support. Take time out of the everyday stress and deadlines to sit around, think, and talk.
